PRENATAL SUPPORT
- After you sign on with your doulas they will be available to answer questions, walk you through different decisions and hold space with you. We are happy to attend prenatal appointments too, so you never have to go alone.
- Your doulas will come to your home and have a prenatal visit with you. In this visit, they will help you create a birth plan and wishlist, giving you prompts and ideas, helping you to create a plan to advocate for the birth you hope to have.
- We love to know how your prenatal appointments go! Knowing your schedule will help us to follow up after visits and check in to see how you and your baby are doing.
BIRTH, LABOR AND IMMEDIATE POSTPARTUM
- When you think you are in labor, one of the first people you call is your doula. This starts the ball rolling letting us know it may be time! We stay in close communication with you until we see you live at the hospital or birth center. During this time we are available to answer your questions, help with different positions and provide encouragement (for your partner too).
- We meet you at the hospital, birth center or home when you are in active labor. This typically is when your contractions are 5 or 4 minutes apart, lasting for 1 minute and in that pattern for 1 hour. This is what we call 5-1-1 or 4-1-1.
- In most cases the on-call doula from your team will be the one who attends your labor and birth from start to finish.
- We stay with you until you are settled in your postpartum suite and make sure you and your partner are feeling set before we leave.
POSTPARTUM VISIT
- Once you arrive home, your doula will come by after a day or so to lay eyes on you. We want to make sure feeding (for both breastfeeding and formula) is working, you’re healing ok and to answer any more questions you may have. This is a great time for you to address any concerns that may have risen in these first couple of days home.
- Of course, as birth AND postpartum doulas, we are also available for postpartum care.
